Now days, it seems there are new addictions springing up at every corner. There are the old school addictions like: food, gambling, alcohol, and drugs. And now there are all kinds of new addictions people face, like internet, gaming, texting and even work. People are quick to throw on a label for any type of compulsive behavior, but the bottom line of all of these “addictions” is one thing. People are having a hard time coping with life. So they look to escape their uncomfortable feelings through an activity that will momentarily distract them from their pain.

Consider this in your own life. How do you manage your stress? How often do you choose a positive activity- like going for a walk, meditating, or doing some exercise? And how often do you choose an activity that just drowns out your pain for a while like food, or substances, or mind numbing entertainment? We all deal with life. We all have a body that gets tired and craves an escape from the pressures of life. The key for us to not get stuck in addictions is to learn healthy ways to replace the negative behaviors.

Its so easy for us to look at someone stuck in their addictions and say to them: “Just stop it!”. But the solution is more complex than just stopping a compulsive behavior. This is the most effective way they know to shift their emotions. It helps them avoid pain, and experience pleasure in their life. And most likely, the behavior gives them an instant response. It shifts how they feel very quickly- so it becomes a reliable outlet for them.

They key to overcoming addictions is to fill your life with coping tools that actually meet your needs, and then there is less need to escape. The problem with healthy coping tools is that they work slowly. They don’t give us the instant escape. A piece of chocolate cake hits the spot right away, while a plate of spinach doesn’t have the same immediate effect. So, rather than focus our efforts on taking away all the chocolate, we should create the daily habit of eating the spinach first. Over time, we will feel better, and have less cravings for the thing that doesn’t serve us. There is less need for the intense behavior.

For addiction recovery to be effective, it must focus on the body, the mind, the spirit and habits of stress management. Learning new habits in these areas will give us a greater sense of well being and of self worth. When our body feels good, and our inner talk is positive and nurturing, and we know how to get quiet and experience stillness- life is an ok place to be. Then with positive habits of stress reduction, we can cope with life one day at a time. And the addictions become way less attractive, because we see the negative consequences they always bring.

For addiction treatment and recovery to be effective, it really needs to look at the deep, unmet emotional needs that drive the person’s behavior. There is a reason someone acts out in harmful ways. Either he wants to avoid a negative emotion, or he wants to experience a positive feeling- even if it’s only for a moment. Any time addiction is involved, people are usually finding ways to trigger the brain’s naturally occurring feel good chemicals- such as adrenaline, serotonin and dopamine. These chemicals are 100 times stronger than heroine! That means in order to overcome the addiction, we need to find ways to replace these chemicals rather than just take them away.

There are 4 areas of focus that any addiction treatment and addiction recovery effort should include if we want to have any chance at good results. These areas are: the body, the mind, the spirit, and stress management. If we don’t use a wholistic approach, the addict will just trade one addiction for another. If you’ve ever attended Alcoholics Anonymous, you’ve probably seen this. People have stopped drinking, but they sit through meeting after meeting smoking like a chimney and drinking coffee like its going out of style. Let’s consider each of these areas.

The first area of focus is the body. The body is made up of organs. For our body to function properly, it requires the basic building blocks of nutrition. We cannot expect to be able to take away a coping tool without giving the body what it really needs. The easiest way to start this refueling is with greens. Any green, leafy vegetable is fantastic for the body. It provides the cells with the nutrients they need to heal and balance themselves and it decreases the acidity of the body. In addition to nutrition, it is critical to learn to slow the body down, to move it and to rest it. As we do this, we feel better and our brain doesn’t need to crave as much of an escape.

Once we get our body in order, it is critical to replace the destructive thoughts we have been thinking. A big part of the process of addiction treatment and recovery is eliminating shame. One of the most effective tools to transform our habitual thoughts is by creating an affirmations recording. This is different than just writing affirmations. When we record our own voice, and mix it with Mozart music, and then listen to it morning and night, we can create a new habit of empowering thoughts. Breaking this shame is critical in addiction recovery.

Next we take a look at the spirit. This does not require us to have religious beliefs. It can be as simple as learning to slow down our thoughts and find stillness within. It may also include our own form of communion with a higher power. For some people this will include quiet time in nature. However we approach this, stillness is a requirement for addiction recovery to be effective.

And finally, we look at habits of stress management. Stress is a reality of life. There is no way to eliminate stress. When we have too much stress, our brain craves adrenaline. Therefore, it is critical that we create lifestyle habits of reducing stress. The primary method of stress reduction in the body is rest. Another great way to reduce stress is by learning to meditate. Some studies suggest that meditation actually reduces more stress than sleep. Unless we make this a habit, and as some say our new addiction, we will be in an endless battle with cravings. And that is not effective addiction treatment or recovery.

There is so much discourse out there on the subject of how to cure an addiction. There are all of the alphabet soup “anonymous” meetings. Some people simply say to go cold turkey. But these all appear to be for substances. What about an internet addiction like pornography addiction? No one seems to like to have a discussion about this subject.

To better comprehend how to cure an addiction, it’s essential to really understand the behavior and what pushes someone to do it. Pornography addiction is very misunderstood. People believe it’s all about sex, but that’s not entirely correct. While it includes sex, what we are really addressing with are the brain chemicals that are discharged during the behavior. The “user”, in reality gets addicted to the biologically occurring brain chemicals just like he or she would to a drug.

They can retrieve these chemicals at a click of a mouse, but after they act out, they feel so guilty and ashamed that they by no means have a discussion in relation to it. When they ultimately reach out for help, they have been “using” the drug for a long period and don’t know how to operate devoid of it.

There is nothing improper with these brain chemicals, in fact- they are what render us feel good in our life. The obstacle is that internet pornography permits someone to retrieve these chemicals at a rate that is unsustainable in the body. He feels good in the moment, but later, he feels really down. The logic is with the intention of he is exhausting his body’s natural supply of these potent chemicals. Once the body feels fatigued, it desires to feel “up” again, so his brain will crave the only method he knows how to feel up- which is to look at pornography online. Once again, he feels up again while his body discharges the serotonin, dopamine and adrenaline, but each time he goes through this cycle, he gets emptier and emptier. Since he is trapped in the emotional cycle, and the cravings are so intense, he most likely doesn’t know how to cure an addiction. He requires help outside of himself.

The crazy thing is that his brain has him persuaded that if he simply goes a little further each time, it will be the period that leaves him pleased forever. Nothing may possibly be more opposite from the truth. Every time he acts out, he will only create greater cravings. The more he acts out, the less pleased he becomes.

He might be able to perceive the cycle, and consciously acknowledge that he won’t be able to attain satisfaction. It’s like a food addict being able to recognize that they will be hungry again in 3 hours, but they still overindulge on a bag of chips. But his brain persuades him every time to act out again- to pursue the perpetually elusive illusion that this will be the time that ultimately fufills him. The crazy thing is that from a biological perspective, it is unachievable for sex to ever complete him emotionally. It’s a chemical rush in his brain he’s after. And every time he gets it, his brain gets more anesthetized to the chemicals, and he needs more and more to get his fix.

To discover how to cure an addiction, it’s vital to understand what is going on in the body and the brain. You can’t just take away the old behavior unless you initially swap the chemicals in a healthy way. You furthermore have to discover how to end the disgrace that comes along with this behavior or he will keep going back to it.

It’s a funny dispute. You’ve seen it, I’m definite. Articles in the news where some phd argues that “Porn Addiction” is not a real addiction. They call it things like a neurotic behavior, or a distasteful practice. But they seem to want to split hairs and say its not the same as alcoholism or drugs. I say: Who cares what you call it. The real dilemma is that people can’t stop watching it. Whether you call it a porn addiction or not, it is destroying marriages and hurting a lot of people. There are a lot of articles on the internet where people ask: How do I end looking at porn? There is a explanation its so challenging to stop a porn addiction. It becomes hard-wired in the brain if someone views it long enough. Their brain becomes addicted to the chemicals released while watching. So when someone tries to cease, they avail yourself of the tools they already know. And unfortunately, those are the tools that got them stuck in the first place. Albert Einstein explained that when we want to alter something in our life, we can’t use the same mind that produced the problem. Most of us bear tools we use to get by with life. But for an addict, it is imperative to add new tools to the toolbox. If the only tool they own is a hammer, it might come off really well to beat in some nails. But what takes place when life hands them screws? Or when the toilet gets plugged? The hammer won’t help them very much. The best way to end a porn addiction is to find out new methods to deal with stress in life. Then they have to keep using these new tools until they become habits. It takes time to set up new habits, but eventually, they don’t need the porn anymore. They take care of their stress in healthy ways and their brain desires the escape less.

If you would like to know how to quit porn, you ought to learn from people who have already done it. Stop trying to employ the tools you already have to sort out a problem you got yourself into!

How many news articles do we need to see that argue whether porn addiction is an addiction or something else. You can call it anything you want. Call it a destructive fondness. Call it a waste of time. The bottom line is that someone you know has a porn addiction. In fact, as many as 7 out of 10 men surveyed have a crisis with this issue. And what they all have in common, whether they admit it’s an addiction or not, is that its almost hopeless to give up on their own.

Einstein was a pretty smart guy. He believed that a problem can’t be fixed by the same mind that fashioned it. That means that someone with a porn addiction rarely has the means to deal with the clutter they have produced.

The biggest problem is that we have created so much humiliation around this issue, that very few people reach out for help. Most of the time they delay until someone else pushes them to acquire help. Like a wife or a girlfriend, or a spiritual leader.

Humans are funny creatures. We expect others to just robotically have the tools to fix their problems on their own. So when someone has a porn addiction, we just expect them to be able to make it go away. But when you ask them about it, they will admit that they can’t seem to stop looking. They try for a few days, or even a few weeks, but then the cravings come on and they just give in again. Expecting them to have the tools to fix this is kind of like expecting someone to be able to build a house using just a hammer. That tool will work just fine when they’re framing the walls and building the floor. But they will need other tools to do the plumbing and the electricity.

It’s the same when they are trying to defeat a porn addiction. They need fresh tools, and they perhaps don’t have those tools (or they would have utilized them!)

There is really only one way to cure porn. And that is to create new habits. See, the rationale someone keeps going back to their porn addiction is that it helps them deal with stress. It’s the only way they know how to cope with life. If you want to know how to cure an addiction, you have to look at the reason for the break. If the person has too much stress, or is lonely, or tired, their brain will desire the escape. The way to make cravings go away, and finally learn to defeat porn addiction is to learn new tools of dealing with the stress, the aloneness, and the exhaustion.

For the reason that most people have no idea how to beat porn addiction, they do what doesn’t work. The most common tactic to try and help someone defeat pornography addiction is to make them feel bad. Parents use this approach, wives use this approach, pastors use this approach. They worse you make them feel, the more rapidly they ought to change, correct? And each time it gets the same outcome: It creates a better phony. Why?

For the reason that the motivation of how to beat porn addiction for this man is that he feels really bad. And this can motivate him for a particular amount of time. But if “feeling bad” is his core motivation for change, he will be punishing himself for his behavior. This will quickly leave him out of balance, and when he gets out of balance his brain will start to crave the old outlet. Even if his pornography addiction doesn’t collapse him long term satisfaction, his brain will crave the short term liberation. The further he gets out of balance, the more powerful the cravings.

Having cravings will make him feel really bad. For the reason that his motivation for change was feeling bad, he won’t permit himself to feel happiness in life. He is bad. He ought to be punished. He needs to labor specially hard for being such a bad boy. Soon, life holds no joy. And he gets further out of balance. And the cravings for the old behavior become worse.

The cravings take over his life. It’s all he can think about. And he starts to compare and contrast his present life with the feelings he got from pornography addiction. This isn’t intentional at first. It’s simply what his brain does. He sees how discontented his life is right now, and recalls how intense things were previously, and he desires to feel good. Unfortunately, one of the only ways he knows how to feel the naturally occurring feel good chemicals that his body produces is to look at porn. And before he knows it, he finds himself fantasizing about doing it again. He gets a little taste of the brain chemicals when he does this, and it intensifies the cravings.

And this is the rationale that making someone feel bad doesn’t know how to beat porn addiction. For the reason that if feeling bad is his lone motivation, as soon as it feels worse to exist with cravings and resist the old behavior- he will keep away from feeling bad. When healthy living feels worse than indulging, he will go back to the old behavior. And he has to become a better liar. And the problem only gets worse.

If you intend to study how to beat porn addiction, you need to understand what is really going on in his body and brain. It commonly requires getting outside help to overcome pornography addiction. If he had the tools to overcome this on his own, he would have done by now. And if you have tried to use guilt as a motivator, you moreover need new tools to be a part of the solution. Otherwise you make the crisis worse.

It’s so strange. 7 out of 10 men and 3 out of 10 women possess some level of problem with pornography addiction, and yet no one appears to know how to beat porn addiction.

Everyone seems to have an belief with reference to it. But the majority of those opinions turn up from non addicts providing what they believe is very good advice to those who are having difficulties. Unfortunately, most of their advice is not worth the cyberspace it takes up. They simply help the addict fib a little better next time.

One thing in their tactic is familiar. Wives do it. Parents do it. Pastors do it. They try really hard to make certain the addict feels like the biggest piece of crap on the planet. And they really rub their noses in it. Naughty, naughty. You bad little boy… you shouldn’t have looked at those boobies. You ought to just know how to beat porn addiction. You should be ashamed of yourself. And he is. Believe me. He is.

But the trouble is that if feeling bad is his lone motivator, he will go out of balance emotionally. Afterward he will have cravings. And pretty soon, he will feel really bad resisting his cravings. And as long as he is a piece of crap, he might as well get some satisfaction in his humiliation.

Before long, he is afflicted by cravings. The lone outlet he has identified since he was 12 years old is having a sexual liberation. He hasn’t developed any other coping tools for the reason that he hasn’t had to. Pornography addiction always took care of his emotions. It is predictable. It works fast. And it alleviates his stress and makes him feel remarkable for merely a minute. And it follows that, very shortly, he feels miserable. All of the shame people dumped on him comes back with a ferocity. He believes he is the worst person in the world.

This is the basic rationale why embarrassment does not work to transform people’s behavior. It is especially not how to beat porn addiction. Shame tells him he is bad. If this is what he believes, when his cravings come back (and they will come back), then it becomes less distressing to act out than to resist. If feeling bad is his sole motivator, it only works at the start. For the reason that he is going to feel really bad when he refuses his only coping method and tries to deal with life exclusive of it.

To really comprehend how to beat porn addiction, you have to look to the source of the behavior and understand what is taking place in the body and the brain of the addict. Present is a chemical addiction to the naturally occurring brain chemicals, and unless he acquires new ways to go through these chemicals in a healthy way, it’s not probable he can surmount his pornography addiction.

The enormous question of the decade that no one wants to converse about. But talk about it we have got to. For the reason that 7 out of 10 men possess this filthy little setback of pornography addiction. And it’s not just the men, a number of surveys imply that as many as 25% of women possess the same secret quandary. And if no one can talk about it, how can we ever anticipate to know how to beat porn addiction?

Everyone seems to have an view on this. Parents attempt to control their kids not to hold a few sexual thoughts or feelings. Wives try to monitor their husbands and are alert about any instance he has a wandering eye. Pastors shame it from the pulpit (while 38% of them look at it in the closet.) And therapists cash in on their next great concept of how to help someone with an issue they know very little about. And the product of all of this is that the man with the pornography addiction incessantly figures out how to be a better and better liar.

He does this for the reason that he hasn’t ever found anything that alleviates his cravings. Even as his wife is willing to be sexual with him, he still has cravings for porn. And he doesn’t understand it so he on no account talks to anybody concerning it. He carries it as his secret shame. No matter what he attempts, nothing makes it go away. Nothing. He has tried everything he could think of, and even though he may go for periods of time when he abstains, it always comes back to haunt him.

Understanding how to beat porn addiction requires more than monitoring obvious behavior. You have to look at what is occurring within the addict. When he was a teenager, long before his brain developed the aptitude to think about long term consequences (that didn’t materialize until he was 28…) he found the most astounding coping mechanism. He could provide himself a sexual liberation. He discovered access to the most potent drugs his body produces. And it was the finest he’d ever experienced. It was predictable and dependable. No matter what he encountered in life, he could constantly make it all go away for a while.

Eventually he found he could amalgamate his sexual release with visual stimulation. At the start he got a real rush barred of it, but after a short period, it no longer gave him the fulfillment he was aiming for. But by that time, he was hooked on the brain chemicals. He tried to cease, but every time he got stressed, or lonely, or bored, his brain produced insane cravings. His disgrace fueled the cravings and he would give in. No matter what he tried, he kept going back.

In order to realize how to beat porn addiction, he ought to study new tools to substitute the old coping method. Otherwise, he will be plagued with cravings. With new tools to deal with his stress, he can alleviate his cravings, and he can retrain his brain with new behavior. Anything less than replacing the old chemicals will fall short and he will return to the pornography addiction.

There are lots of sentiments on the subject of how to help addiction. Unfortunately, most of the ideas essentially make things worse. Especially when we are discussing about the fastest growing addiction available there – porn addiction. And for the reason that there is so much embarrassment around this subject, only some people know where to look to acquire real answers.

If you intend to help addiction, you have to understand what you’re dealing with. This is not merely a simple behavioral problem. Porn addiction combines the natural sex drive with a rush of potent chemicals that are believed to be 100 times stronger than heroine. The effect is fireworks in the brain the likes of which it has never known. And to top it off, it is shamed so bad that it is all kept a secret until it gets out of control.

By the time a guy gets caught viewing porn, or admits to having a problem with it, he has already trained his brain to anticipate this substance and emotional experience on a regular basis. Even added, he has been rhythm into his of course occurring mind chemicals at a rate that is unsustainable. The consequence is that his body becomes used up of these chemicals, and it leaves him feeling really down. Even if he wants to help addiction, he’s jammed in a vicious cycle. Any time the body feels down, the brain will thrust to make it feel better. And in his case, the way it does this is to crave an alternative escape through porn. For just a moment, he feels the rush of endorphins, or feel-good chemicals, and he feels up again. And within moments of getting a release, everything comes crashing down again. Each time digging himself a deeper and deeper void to get out of.

It is such a depressing irony that the very thing he believes will bring him permanent fulfillment will essentially cause him more cravings. It is a fantasy that will lead him further and further into the desert. There is no satisfaction with pornography. Just more deceit.

And rationally, he knows this. He has seen the pattern played out over the years. But emotionally, his brain is positive that to feel the chemicals again, it will fulfill him. It will fill the emptiness and make him whole. And it’s a catch 22, for the reason that if he stops viewing it, he will suffer very uneasy desires. And when this gets miserable enough, he will not remember why he is stopping.

To help addiction, you have got to have an style with the aim of helps him substitute the chemicals he has been feeling. If you just take them away, his brain will crave them. In addition, you ought to allot him tools to break out of the shame cycle that has kept him trapped.

With no new tools, breaking pornography addiction is all but not possible. If he had the tools to break it, he would have done it by now. To help addiction, you need to educate yourself on what really succeeds, and especially what doesn’t work in breaking pornography addiction. And if you fight with this, you really need to discover the steps of recovery.

When someone dear to you has an internet addiction, you perhaps ask yourself- what can be done to help addiction? The snag is that there is so much misinformation on the market. It appears to come from non-addicts giving advice to people fighting with addiction. It’s kind of like someone who has in no way been fat and eats whatever they want extending weight loss advice.

To really help addiction, especially how to stop porn addiction, its important that you obtain real answers. When someone has this problem, they are more addicted to the biologically occurring brain chemicals than they are to sex. Sex might be the way of accessing those chemicals, but they are dependent on the endorphins. These brain chemicals have been likened to cocaine and heroine in brain studies. This is serious stuff we are dealing with.

Even though the majority guys have some kind of internet addiction, there is a lot of humiliation around this subject. This means that by the time someone begins learning how to stop porn addiction, they are already hooked on it. This means he has been tapping into the natural feel good chemicals in his body and brain. There is nothing wrong with these chemicals. They are a wonderful part of life. But the addict has figured out how to tap into these at the click of a button. At first, it made them feel great. Better than anything else they’ve ever known. But for the reason that these chemicals aren’t made to be utilized by the side of these levels, it becomes unsustainable. They exhaust their system, and rather than leave them feeling satisfied, it leaves them feeling tip.

What is crazy is that the addict believes acting out will essentially render himself feel better. But the reverse is true. It will actually make him have more cravings, because he’s using up the inadequate supply of these chemicals in his brain. Every time his brain wants to feel up, it causes him to want the old habit. Each time he gets further and further in a hole.

He has witnessed this cycle in his life. He recognizes it won’t leave him feeling satiated. However in the moment of cravings, he feels so bare that the single thing he wants to feel is up again. In that insane split second, he is positive that this next time will bring permanent satisfaction. But it in no way does. He merely digs the void deeper.

For him to help addiction, he can’t just cease the behavior. He needs to discover healthy means to acquire these chemicals. Or he will just feel miserable in his life. And when it feels worse to resist the cravings than to feel disgrace, he acts out again- even though he knows he will feel degrade. So you have to find other ways to experience the brain chemicals.

With new tools, you can help addiction. As he starts to understand what is really going on in his body, he can respond differently to cravings. The cravings turn out to be a sign to him that he is out of balance emotionally. It may well mean that he needs to eat healthy food, or work out. He might need to sleep more. He could be missing connection. Perhaps he needs to spend some time alone in nature. But when he begins to get these chemicals in a healthy way, and take care of himself, he can put a stop to his internet addiction.
