It’s so strange. 7 out of 10 men and 3 out of 10 women possess some level of problem with pornography addiction, and yet no one appears to know how to beat porn addiction.

Everyone seems to have an belief with reference to it.  But the majority of those opinions turn up from non addicts providing what they believe is very good advice to those who are having difficulties.  Unfortunately, most of their advice is not worth the cyberspace it takes up.  They simply help the addict fib a little better next time.

One thing in their tactic is familiar.  Wives do it.  Parents do it.  Pastors do it.  They try really hard to make certain the addict feels like the biggest piece of crap on the planet.  And they really rub their noses in it.  Naughty, naughty.  You bad little boy… you shouldn’t have looked at those boobies.  You ought to just know how to beat porn addiction.  You should be ashamed of yourself.  And he is.  Believe me.  He is.

But the trouble is that if feeling bad is his lone motivator, he will go out of balance emotionally.  Afterward he will have cravings.  And pretty soon, he will feel really bad resisting his cravings.  And as long as he is a piece of crap, he might as well get some satisfaction in his humiliation.

Before long, he is afflicted by cravings.  The lone outlet he has identified since he was 12 years old is having a sexual liberation.  He hasn’t developed any other coping tools for the reason that he hasn’t had to.  Pornography addiction always took care of his emotions.  It is predictable. It works fast.  And it alleviates his stress and makes him feel remarkable for merely a minute.  And it follows that, very shortly, he feels miserable.  All of the shame people dumped on him comes back with a ferocity.  He believes he is the worst person in the world.

This is the basic rationale why embarrassment does not work to transform people’s behavior.  It is especially not how to beat porn addiction.  Shame tells him he is bad.  If this is what he believes, when his cravings come back (and they will come back), then it becomes less distressing to act out than to resist.  If feeling bad is his sole motivator, it only works at the start.  For the reason that he is going to feel really bad when he refuses his only coping method and tries to deal with life exclusive of it.

To really comprehend how to beat porn addiction, you have to look to the source of the behavior and understand what is taking place in the body and the brain of the addict.  Present is a chemical addiction to the naturally occurring brain chemicals, and unless he acquires new ways to go through these chemicals in a healthy way, it’s not probable he can surmount his pornography addiction.
